The nature of ANSI’s neutral third- party evaluation process provides certification bodies such as TABB with an internationally recognized standard of quality and benchmarks by which to evaluate and improve their practices. Many companies in the HVAC industry might display an official-looking emblem, but those ratings and evaluations are local associations that allow local contractors to set standards and test employees. Such systems virtually invite mischief from conflicts of interest among participating local contractors. By contrast, ANSI’s staff provides support and an arms-length objectivity for organizations it accredits. ANSI certification is an ongoing process. Certified organizations are held to tough standards of performance and frequent benchmarking to keep performance within the required range.
